I was one of the founders and continue as the Chairman of the Board of Directors (emeritus) of Guided Discoveries, a not for profit, 501(c)3, Corporation incorporated in 1978 in the state of California, that operates the Catalina Island Marine Institute and AstroCamp in Idyllwild, California and AstroCamp Virginia in Clover, Virginia.

A 50-year volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America, I served in numerous capacities from Scoutmaster to Vice-Chairman of the San Gabriel Valley Council. I was honored by the Council as a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award.

I joined the Rotary in 1974 and served as the president of the Rotary Club of San Marino, California in 1989-1990 and Governor of District 5300, Rotary International in 1994-1995. I am a recipient of Rotary Foundation District Service Award, Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service, and the Rotary Foundation Distinguished Service Award.
